Easy Homemade Coffee Creamer
Homemade coffee creamer is surprisingly simple to whip up, and it’s a game-changer for your morning routine. With just a few basic ingredients and a little creativity, you can craft delicious, personalized creamers that are both healthier and more flavorful than store-bought options.
Why You Should Make Your Own Coffee Creamer
- Simple, Easy, and Made with Ingredients You Know: Now, I know what you’re thinking. “But I’m no chef!” Trust me, I felt the same way. No complicated techniques or hard-to-find ingredients here! If you can heat a pan on the stove, you can totally DIY your own flavored coffee creamer.
- Natural and Customizable Goodness: Your base is half-and-half or heavy cream. From there, it’s easy to make your own favorite flavor by simply adding a bit of sugar or your desired sweetener. And if you’re feeling adventurous, the recipe adaptations are endless! You can easily make it dairy-free or sugar-free, or even add a splash of vanilla or a sprinkle of cinnamon. As a bonus, you’ll always know exactly what’s in your creamer, and there’s no guessing like with store-bought options or other creamer recipes that call for sweetened condensed milk, oils, or artificial flavors and ingredients.
- Just the Right Amount of Sweetness: Have you ever noticed how store bought creamers with condensed milk can sometimes taste a little too sweet? Homemade creamer tends to be less sweet, but you can always adjust the amount of sweetener to make it just right.
- Versatile and Delicious: Once you’ve sweetened your homemade creamer to perfection, there’s no limit to the ways you can enjoy it! Pour it into your iced coffee, your espresso, or any coffee concoction your heart desires. As a coffee lover myself, I can tell you, it’s a game-changer!
How to Make Homemade Coffee Creamer (3 Ingredients Only!!)
Once you try this easy homemade coffee creamer recipe, you’ll never go back to the store bought stuff! I’ll give you a brief overview of this delicious concoction, but don’t worry – you’ll find the full recipe with exact ingredients and measurements in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. And hey, stick around for some other flavors I’ll show you in the section below!
Ingredients for Vanilla Coffee Creamer
Alright, coffee lovers, here’s a combination you’ll have memorized after the first time you make it. Trust me, you’ll remember this one easily – it’s all about equal parts for the first two ingredients. How’s that for easy?
- Half and Half: This is your creamy base. It gives just the right amount of creaminess to your cup of coffee without creating that annoying oily film. Fun fact: half-and-half is essentially equal parts milk and heavy cream. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can make your own half-and-half if you want!
- Sweetened Condensed Milk: We’re going to use a standard 14 oz jar here. This magical stuff adds a rich, milky sweetness that’ll make your taste buds dance.
- Vanilla Extract: Now, this one’s technically optional, but it adds such a lovely layer of flavor to your vanilla coffee creamer. I always use homemade extract (another DIY project I love!), but store bought will work too.
Pro Tip: If you’re after a lower-calorie creamer, try this trick – substitute the half-and-half with milk. It’s not quite as creamy, but it still tastes great and cuts down on those calories.
Let’s Make This Delicious Coffee Creamer
Alright, coffee aficionados, let’s get down to business! Here’s how to make this easy homemade vanilla coffee creamer:
- First things first, grab your quart-sized (32 oz) mason jar. There’s something satisfying about using a mason jar, isn’t there? Maybe it’s just me, but it makes me feel like a proper kitchen wizard. Now, let’s combine our star ingredients: the half-and-half, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla extract. Just pour them all in there – no need to be too precious about it.
- Screw that lid on tightly. Now, here’s the fun part (and a great way to get out any pent-up frustrations): shake it like you mean it! Give it a good go until everything is well combined.
- And voila! Your creamer is ready to roll. Now, let’s talk storage. You’ll want to keep this liquid happiness covered and refrigerated. Treat it right, and it’ll last you up to 2 weeks. But between you and me, it’s so delicious, it rarely lasts that long in my house!

Pour this liquid gold into a jar or bottle, seal it up, and pop it in the fridge to refrigerate. Remember to give it a good shake well before each use!

- Chill the mixture in the refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
Recipe Tips and Tricks
- Remember!! don’t boil your mixture! When you heat your base, keep it at a gentle medium-low heat. You want it just warm enough to see a bit of steam and dissolve sugar. Don’t let it simmer – there’s a real risk of scalding the milk, which can leave an unpleasant taste.
- Here’s a pro tip: add extracts after removing the mixture from heat. Why? Well, extracts often contain alcohol, which can burn off if added too early, taking that delicious extract flavor with it. And when it comes to sweetness, always sweeten to taste. Granulated sugar might take a moment to dissolve.
- Now, let’s talk batch sizes. Feel free to adjust as needed. Need creamer for a crowd? Go ahead and double the recipe. Or if you’re like me and love variety, freeze leftovers in small portions. Alternatively, halve the ingredients for a more modest portion.
- Speaking of variety, why not make multiple flavors in one go? Here’s how I do it: heat your cream or half-and-half with sugar until the sugar dissolves. Then, divide the creamer into different heat-safe bowls. Now comes the fun part – whisk in different extracts and flavors. You could add cocoa powder to one, pumpkin to another… the possibilities are endless! Just remember to keep the heat low when incorporating these flavoring ingredients.
Dietary Adaptations
- Enjoy this coffee creamer recipe without any tummy troubles! Simply swap out the regular cream for lactose-free heavy cream or lactose-free half-and-half. These alternatives taste just as creamy and delicious as their traditional counterparts.
- Make a coffee creamer your friends with allergies and food preferences will love! For a dairy-free and vegan-friendly coffee creamer, substitute the dairy with a combination of 1 cup oat milk and 1 cup full-fat coconut milk.
- Watching your sugar intake? Your DIY coffee creamer doesn’t have to suffer! You can substitute the sugar in any of our recipes with alternatives like 1 cup monkfruit sweetener instead of granulated sugar, or use 1 teaspoon Stevia powder or 1 cup Swerve sweetener.

Storing Coffee Creamer
Your homemade healthy coffee creamer will last for about 2 weeks in a sealed jar in the refrigerator, or until the sell-by date of your half and half, whichever comes first. Always use a fresh container for each batch. Since this is a dairy product, it’s best to store the jar on the bottom shelf in the back of your refrigerator, where it’s the coldest. Do not store it in the door of the fridge, as the temperature fluctuates too much there.
While dairy technically doesn’t freeze solid, it’s not recommended to freeze your coffee creamer in a large batch. The texture can change when it thaws. However, if you still want to freeze some, you can pour the cooled creamer into a freezer-safe container or bag and store it for up to 3 months. Or, you can freeze it in individual portions by using ice cube trays. Simply freeze the trays until frozen, then transfer the cubes to a freezer-safe container or bag. To defrost, either place the creamer over low heat on the stovetop until thawed, or defrost individual frozen cubes on low in the microwave.
Final Words
So there you have it – a whole world of coffee creamer possibilities, ready to be whipped up right in your kitchen. Say goodbye to those store-bought bottles and hello to a healthier, tastier, and more personalized way to enjoy your daily cup of joe.
